Islam and its long war

Here we go again. The muslims are fighting a war of infinite length, and most people don't seem to understand it. It's just like the communists.... they're willing to fight for generations and centuries to achieve final victory. The rest of the world, not understanding fully that there is a war going on; try to make nice, and only see the immediate future.

So lets get some perspective: According to Hindi tradition, this site is the birthplace of Rama. Given how long Hinduism has existed in India (at least 2000 years), I'd say this site was holy to the Hindus long before Islam came along, and of course archaelogy confirms this obvious fact.

As always, the Muslims came along, butchering and robbing; and saw a holy site. "Aha" said they. "A holy site for us to confiscate." And they destroyed the temple, and built a mosque. Later, they lost control of the area. Eventually, radical Hindus destroyed the mosque, leading to bloodshed. But the Muslims, of course, contend that the Site is "holy" to them, and therefore it belongs to them. After all, they've been there for 400 years!

Now the lawyers (this being India, likely trained in the British tradition) have agreed.

Guess what? THE MUSLIMS WON'T BE SATISFIED WITH THIS DECISION!!!!

They never are. It's a major part of their tradition of conquest. Cordoba, Jerusalem, Constantinople, etc. Take over an important shrine/site and build a new shrine there, in order to cement your presence and your right to be there. (In the interest of fairness, most conquerors do the same.) It's just that when the conqueror is anyone but the Muslims, it's considered wrong. When it's the Muslims.... well, just repeat the mantra: "religion of peace, religion of peace".

Once again, the strategy seems to be working, and growing increasingly blatant.

I'm always amazed at how blatant this crap has become. Whether it's the multi-culti groups that want a world government, socialism, or the return of the Caliphate, the asshats out there trying to destroy the Western World are happy to do so openly. And the entire left just shrugs (at best) or asks how they can help (at worst). And then goes out and claims to be proud patriots and defenders of freedom.

The school nickname there is, of course, The Spartans. And some idiot perfesser wrote a bit about how that should be changed, since the Spartans were evil, reactionary, and blah blah blah. Rather, as intellectuals, the University Community should strive to be more like the Athenians, with their love of art, culture, etc.

And their love of imperialism, slaughter, etc. But we won't talk about that, I guess.

Good cops and bad cops

A while ago (I sadly don't recall exactly when or where) I read an article that talked about how the British government was trying to cope with some of the terrorist acts they had recently confronted. Their idea was to meet with "moderate muslims" and try to find out some options for defeating and/or preventing terrorist acts.

The article spoke of what the Brits were told: If you allow us to handle matters for many questions by means of a sharia court, then we'll go back to our mosques and tell our people that we're being treated equally by the British government. If you don't... well we don't know who or exactly why, but some unknown people in the muslim community might decide to commit acts of terror.

The author of this piece- probably the Baron over at Gates of Vienna- pointed out the flaws. Essentially, the Brits were told "give us preferential treatment over any other religion, and then we'll tell people we're being treated fairly".

But of course, that's not true. If you are treated preferentially, then it's not "fair" by definition. Thus, they were the proverbial iron fist in the velvet glove: Give us everything the terrorists demand and they won't commit acts of terrorism. We assume, because of course we have no idea who these people are, or why they're doing such things.

It's all about advancing the Cause. If you can get people to kneel before Islam peacefully, great. If not, then it's the responsibility of all good Muslims to find another way to advance their faith.

One hand washes the other.

All of which came to mind the other day. Because, lo and behold! Our friendly neighborhood Ground Zero imam now claims that, if he were to move the mosque to another, less offensive area, then the-evil-terrorists-who-by-the-way-I-don't-know-and-who-don't-really-follow-Islam will take it badly. So darn, there's nothing we can do about it.

Sound familiar? Remember: with Islam, one hand washes the other. Iron fist, meet velvet glove.

Bitch-slaps Arnie. I had hopes for him once, but no more. Sadly, he's not leftist enough to satisfy the dummocrats, and he's not anywhere near conservative enough to satisfy us. People like Arnie, Bush and the like have tried to take the Republican party to the left, which is only possible because the Democrat party has shifted into socialism. But what they forget is that there aren't that many leftists in the US, and thus the farther one goes to the left, the more one alienates everybody to the right of that spot.

And thus we get the Tea Party movement.

Jeebus. Every time I think this administration has hit bottom, they dig a little deeper. Now Bambi and his Minions of Evil specifically mentioned Arizona's immigration law in a report to the UN Commissioner on Human Rights. In his opinion, this law shows that the US needs help from the asshats at the UN in the area of human rights.

It is important to note that the Obama administration’s report to the United Nations will go before the UN Human Rights Council, which includes in its current membership some of the world’s worst human rights abusers. The likes of China, Cuba, Libya, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, will have a right to pass judgment over the Arizona immigration law, a humiliation for a great superpower before some of the most brutal regimes on the face of the earth.

Note the kind and gentle nations that are on the Commission.

I'm beginning to seriously think that we need to get rid of these evil morons by any means possible.

WTF? Something is seriously wrong here. First off, it looks pretty apparent that there were racial overtones to some of these attacks. Like it or not, Blacks do attack Whites for no reason other than race. And like it or not, it tends to be glossed over when it happens. And of course nobody screams about "hate crimes".

But even worse is that these kids (and adults) are now getting right up into the faces of the cops. It just seems that these punks have no respect for anybody anymore. And it's not gonna get any better.

Carrying a pistol all the time seems a much better option, I have to say. I highly recommend it.

Today we have an interesting song for JotM. This is the great Scottish duo The Corries, doing "Blue Bonnets". I found this last night, while looking for good Highland Marches in honor of Bill Millin.

I knew the song before, because Natalie MacMaster, an old favorite of mine did a lovely, haunting version of it. At least I think it's the same song. I'm not sure, since I can hear no similarities between them. It might be the instruments, the tempo, etc, but to my untrained ear the two versions are completely different.

I'm not sure which one I prefer. The fiddle version is, as I said, very haunting. It's got a sad tone to it, which works well for catharsis when one is feeling down. The Corries version, with pounding bodhrans, sounds more like what I guess the song is intended to be: A song to inspire a Highlander to go pummel an Englishman or twenty. So I guess that's a point in its favor. (Not encouraging any random Scot to go a-pummeling, but honestly, that's the point of much of their traditional music).

Anybody got an feelings either way?

Anyhow, to warm up for writing this, I watched this video twice, one after the other. Love the song, but something about the video is equally compelling. Maybe it's the internal dork in me, but even the outfits they wear seem cool. I sometimes wish I were younger, so that I would have had the internet as a teenager and young man, when I could have found these traditional or medieval type outfits and worn them as my own particular style. Don't think I could pull them off so well now. Ah well.

A brave man leaves us

RIP Bill Millin, the man who achieved well-deserved fame for playing his pipes on Sword Beach, June 6, 1944. The bravest of the brave, perhaps.

Here's the best quote from the story. When Lord Lovat asked him to play, Millin initially refused, because regulations forbade it. Here's the terrific but brief story:

Don't know for certain the truth of this whole affair, but this makes sense to me. Even if we were to assume this article is wrong, the question would remain: Does the Muslim world see it the same way? After all, it's well known that Arafat, a "peace-lover" in the eyes of the Western world, would make a pro-peace statement in the West, and then run home to his cronies and tell the Islamic media that he didn't really mean it, and that the goal of destroying Israel was still there.

So I don't know. But I figure the smart money is on this being a ploy to make Islam look stronger in the Mideast, and humiliate the US a bit. And if the elite and the politicians are too ignorant to know what they're doing, that's just a bonus.

Wow. Here's an article that explains one of Bambi's problems: He thinks he's so darn smart because he's always been told how gosh-darn smart he is. Not the most original idea, but here's the quote that I think makes the whole article worthwhile:

Another brilliant move

Once upon a time, politicians here in Michigan had a brilliant idea: ban smoking in bars. All of them. Across the board. Gotta protect the health of the people, no matter what the cost.

Opponents warned that it would be a disaster. After all, if people go out to bars to drink, play pool and hang out, they'll often want to smoke. If they can't smoke, then they're less likely to go out. If they don't go out, they won't spend money. Bars will suffer a downturn (possibly fatal) in business, tax revenues will drop, and the economy in the State will suffer.

But no. Those people are fools. A smoking ban would have no effect. The politicians and anti-smoking people said so! And thus the ban passed....

.... And now behold! 42% of respondents to a recent poll found their business has dropped since the ban went into effect. Along with loss of jobs & loss of tax revenues, the State has even found a drop in lottery revenues.

Great thinking folks!

At some point, I hope that politicians and bureaucrats figure out that screwing over small and medium businesses, and costing them money is somehow harmful to the economy.

But I doubt it. They're all morons.

I was just watching the semi-professional local news here in my little town. They were talking about the fact that GM is gonna be selling stock again. (Even my mom, a retired GM employee, is uninterested BTW). But what grabbed me and almost set me off is the repeated announcement that GM is "going to go public".

WTF? I thought that the taxpayers in this country owned the Company already. So isn't that already "public"? Apparently not. They also stated that "the government owns 61% of the Company".

Really? Again, I thought the taxpayers owned it. The government in this country shouldn't own crap! If it's bought with my money, then don't I own it?

Grrr. In most cases, the media shills for Bambi and his cronies, but in this case, while it's still the most likely excuse, it could just be that the local news people aren't professional enough to know the difference.

So the first winner of the GTW "Stupidity reigns supreme" award is Harry Reid of Nevada, who once again showed a complete lack of forethought by announcing that he can't understand how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican.

What an asshat. Hopefully the good people of Nevada will rid the Country of this douchenozzle come November. Until then, he can take pride in making me shake my head and exclaim that "stupidity reigns supreme".

We could never be so lucky again

Welcome back to what I hope will be a reborn GTW. For starters, we have this piece from investors.com. In it, the authors ask if the incompetence, arrogance, stupidity, and corruption of the politicians in Washington will lead to a new revolution:

People are asking, "Is the government doing us more harm than good? Should we change what it does and the way it does it?"

My gut has long led me to believe that the current system in the US is hurtling towards disaster. Politicians are corrupt, and pass laws without any interest in how their constituents feel about it. And of course the judiciary has become the "go-to" place to implement progressive laws that most people oppose.

So on one level, yes I think we need to scrap the current system and start over. Call a new Constitutional Convention, and rewrite the Constitution, with additional safeguards to ensure that, down the road, the political class doesn't usurp the law to benefit themselves. This is, I guess, my "gut level" reaction.

Then my intellectual side kicks in- or as one might call it my "cynical bastard" side. Because while the Framers who met some 220 years ago were men of incredible achievement (both before and after the Convention), who took the best ideas out there and found a way to make them work, the only chance a new Convention would have is to completely exclude anyone who calls him or herself a "progressive" or a "liberal". Because they would destroy the whole thing, possibly on the spot, but certainly within a generation or so.

And like so many "progressive" ideas, it would seem innocent: "We need" they would say, "to protect the rights of X". And most people would agree. After all, it seems pretty sensible, and completely rational. But the liberal mindset can destroy anything, and turn anything to evil. So this section would be written in a way that would then be "interpreted" to mean something completely different by liberal judges (a redundancy, of course). And then it's off to the races!

There is nothing that a liberal can't turn around and morph into something other than what it is. If a law or a policy says A, liberals will turn it around and claim that it also means B. And then claim that it only sorta means A.

Think I'm making it up, or exaggerating? Fine. Tell me exactly where the word "abortion" appears in the US Constitution. Good luck. Start now.....

Give up? Okay. Well to a progressive, it's in the 14th amendment:

Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Section 2. Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State.

Section 3. No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may, by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

Section 5. The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

Now, if you're like me, you don't see it. But of course, if you're a progressive, then it's kinda sorta in there someplace, so it has to be made official. And thus abortion becomes a Constitutional Right. Ditto this year for gay marriage. "Wow! It's been there all along! Hiding in plain sight! How did we manage to miss that for 220 years?"

But some of us, who have actually read the Constitution in its entirety, also know about this little sentence:

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

In other words, if it ain't explicitly in the Constitution, then it's none of Washington's damn business. Period. End of discussion. And I've yet to find the terms "abortion" and "gay marriage" in the Constitution. And this last sentence comprises what some experts in legal matters call "The 10th Amendment." Check that one out too.

Do you see my concern now? It's easy to say that government has gotten too big, too corrupt, too... whatever, and argue for a new constitution. And I'd agree with you. Except that I have a concern. Don't believe those that tell you gravity is the strongest force in the universe. Or any other science-y type thing. The most powerful force in the entire universe is The Law of Unintended Consequences. It's gotten the US- and the western world- to where we are now. And like a ball rolling down a hill, it's getting more and more powerful; and rolling faster and faster. Soon, we'll all look like Wile E. Coyote after yet another futile attempt at catching his dinner.

The only possible hope would be if we had men such as Madison and Washington to lead the movement. But we don't. I don't know if such men exist anymore, but if they do, they wouldn't be involved in this affair. So there's no chance.

America as a nation is doomed. Cause of death is liberalism. And apathy. The diseased body just doesn't care enough to fight anymore. We need to revise our entire system of government, but any attempt would be doomed at birth. Sad but true.

Arthur decides to try and BS his way out of it. The pair ramble around, trying to finish each other's thoughts, and finally decide that it perfectly encapsulates "whatever it is that the poem is about."

On the other hand, I recall reading once that one of John Wilkes Booth's brothers saved a man from falling in front of a train. The man he saved was (predictably, if you like irony), Robert T. Lincoln. Son of Abraham.

Apparently they exchanged names, but the conversation didn't go too far after that. Wonder why....

The comments are also fun. Especially the whiny "I can't believe anyone would use violence" ones, and the "Lincoln was a racist" ones. Every week, preferably on Monday (my day off) I run over to look at the websites of Mark Steyn and Victor Davis Hanson. I then read all their weekly ruminations in one delicious helping.

Today, in the very last sentence that I read on Dr. Hanson's site, I came across a wonderful bit. This is the sort of comment that one can make when one is an actual historian, and is able to make analyses, detect historical trends, and so on. (As opposed to just warning people that So-And-So is a Fascist, when in fact the opposite is true).

So with no further ado:

Wow. It looks like the Messiah is bringing real hope and change to Washington already. Those poor bastards on Wall Street are taking a break from jumping out of windows to go down to D.C. and get a taste of Hopey-change.

Of course, they're all donating money to the Messiah's inauguration in order to do it. It now appears that the banking industry has collectively ponied up almost 4 Million bucks so these jackasses can attend the coronation of the Messiah. More money than even the legal profession and Hollywood.

I'm shocked. I thought that Wall Street was in the pocket of the Republicans (or vice versa), and that they didn't like his Obamaness. Presumably the money they gave his campaign was to accomplish something important that would harm him, because they wanted so desperately for him to lose.

Ditto for the money they gave him while he was in the Senate. The money that the media doesn't mention because it might sound a bit dicey if they inform us that, while the bankers were driving their own companies into the ground, they were donating piles of money to Democrats. Goes against the Theme, you know.

What a bunch of hypocrites. And the media is even worse. They won't mention this, anymore than they mention the other bits of hypocrisy coming from His Worshipfullness. But some of us will face the scorn of the Acolytes by pointing out that the investors going to rub shoulders with His Gloriousness might have reasons to do so.

Saving the economy

Well apparently, we're told, the Messiah and his minions are saving the economy already. Obama junk is selling like the proverbial hotcakes, and helping keep the economy afloat.

By that logic then, I guess that all the pointless bumper stickers touting "Nothing accomplished" and "Bush lied, people died" kept the economy afloat during the Bush years. So perhaps we should then credit Bush, because his fascistic policies kept these bumper sticker manufacturers afloat. And thus, the economy kept functioning.

In that spirit, I call on all loyal readers (whoever you are) to do your part to keep the economy functioning. Buy more stuff, and contribute more money to the government, so that the bankers can keep their huge bonuses!

Hopefully this is what it appears to be: part of a growing trend of people beginning to notice what some of us have known for months (or years): The Messiah is a complete and utter empty suit.

Of course, in fairness even one of my liberal friends thinks so (or did a few months ago. Not sure anymore). But he added a caveat: When the messiah does say something concrete, and makes an actual point, beyond "hope and change", it tends to be scary.

I really think this guy is kind of a dumbass. Some disagree that he's actually brilliant, but I don't see it. He's a Chicago politician (in the worst sense of the word), and he's Black. The former gets him elected, the latter guarantees a fawning audience everywhere liberals gather.

He's just a complete non-entity. Worth nothing, does nothing, deserves nothing. I hope he gets not just beaten, but destroyed in November.

I first posted this on Grouchy Old Cripple, as a comment on a piece about the price of oil and it's effects. Several people noted that it seems like a good point. So here we go again:

The folks who argue that drilling in ANWR won't do much for the cost of oil seem to miss a point. If we get all our oil from the Mideast, it must be shipped here. There are transportation costs, of which one of the biggest is the tanker itself.

How much fuel does an oil tanker use? These are massive vessels, carrying massively large loads. I'm pretty sure they move at a relatively slow pace (much slower than a destroyer, for instance).

So if a tanker has to haul these gigantic cargos halfway around the world, plodding along at a slow pace, then they must be using fuel at a prodigious rate.

Now here's a thought exercise: Compare the amount of fuel used to move a supertanker halfway around the world to the amount of fuel used to move a similar amount of fuel down a pipeline from ANWR to, say, Juneau.

Then, let's contemplate how many tankers there are on the oceans of the world. It probably takes at least 10 tanker loads to fuel the US for a single day. Toss in all the other countries that use oil- China for instance- and consider that my S.W.A.G. (scientific wild-ass guess) of 10 loads would require a convoy of 10 tankers sailing every day. If it takes (another S.W.A.G. here) 15 days for a tanker to travel from the Persian Gulf to the US, then that means there are 150 tankers enroute to the US on any given day. And by extension, another 150 enroute back to the Gulf.

How much fuel do those hypothetical 300 tankers use? And since I suspect it's a considerable amount, how does that impact worldwide demand for oil? And since we know that the transportation costs are passed along to the consumer, how much are we paying to move the oil from Point A to Point B? And do the figures cited for how many barrels of oil are used per day (BPD, for the initiated) include this number?

I have a hunch that the answers are somewhat uncomfortable. I suspect that we're seeing a lot of oil getting burned just for the sake of transit, and that it does have some impact on oil costs. But if it were to be quantified, and shown to the American people, then they might get uppity ideas about finding closer sources and more efficient ways to move oil.

Which might bring us back to ANWR. And we can't have that. God knows we can't do anything to cause discomfort for the mosquitos there.

Irony is pointless, methinks, without some kind of context. And this moron slaps this garbage up (rather, gives it to GoV to slap up), and then runs and hides. Notice that the author never shows up in the comments. He just leaves it to Baron Bodissey to defend him.

In fairness, I seem to recall a couple other pieces by the same author, also posted by GoV. And while they didn't offend me the way this one did, they were equally stupid.

Sadly, I sometimes feel that GoV has slipped dramatically the last few months. The comments especially are often nothing more than a haven for the incredibly arrogant and stupid.

I'm floored. It literally seems that, every time I think these pieces of crap have hit the lowest point possible, they manage to not only get lower, but by several orders of magnitude.

Why vote Democrat?

For a couple weeks now, I've been contemplating the ultimate question: Why would anyone vote for a Democrat? It really is a puzzle. The basic tenets of our liberal friends are ones that make no sense. A quick glance might be constructive, methinks.

Abortion. Most conservatives think that vacuuming out an embryo, so that the potential mother doesn't have to be inconvenienced is A Bad Thing. For a Democrat, of course, it's all about choice, and this embryo isn't a Real Person. Unless of course, a pregnant woman is murdered by her husband/boyfriend, in which case then he's guilty of murdering two people. The fact that this leads to additional jail time for the man is A Good Thing. So is the baby a person or not? Depends on who kills it. If a woman murders an unborn baby (or a doctor doing the dirty work for her) then the embryo is not alive. If a man kills it, along with the woman, then it's a dual murder.

High oil prices. Again, as a conservative, I think that oil prices are too high. Yes, I understand the whole concept of "supply and demand". But I also understand that this means that, if demand is driving up prices, then one option is to increase supply. Let me spell it out: High demand+low supply=high prices. On the other hand, High demand+high supply=lower prices. Anyone that knows me will nod their head when I say I'm not terribly good at math, but even I can understand this one. It ain't rocket science.

But it goes even further. It isn't just that our leftist friends don't understand the basic economic facts here. It's that the ones that do understand the facts, don't care. There's a greater good here. It's all about getting you to do the right thing. If the price of gas goes up, that's A Good Thing. Why? Because it makes people drive less, thus cutting down on pollution, and presumably fighting global warming.

The bad news is, if people drive less, then tax revenues go down. So we might have to increase taxes anyway. But it's all for our own good, right?

Of course, there's another small matter here. The people that are most affected are the ones that have the least amount of money. Which tends not to be our liberal friends. Interesting note: if you make $10 and hour, and it costs $40 to fill your gas tank, then that's half a day's work. Of course, you already pay about $3.50 an hour in taxes, which leaves you with about $6.50 for an hour's work. So now, it's about six hours worth of work that you've done. If you have to fill up your car once a week, then you're spending about 16% of your NET pay on gas. Combine that with the (roughly) 35 % the government takes off the top, and you've lost half of your income.

Now imagine that this poor soul is a single parent, trying to raise their child. It's virtually impossible. Of course, they can get a second job, but that would mean working all day every day, and not spending any time with their child. Which isn't healthy for the child. Or they can save money and gas by riding the bus. For an hour or two each day. Again, less time for the child.

But have no fear- they'll give the parent money to pay for the child's daycare. And her medical costs. After all, that's the job of the government, right? Now sure, it'll mean a tiny bit more money coming out of the parent's paycheck to pay for it all, but what the hell. It's only money, and it's for a great cause. And we have an obligation to help raise the child.

Oh, and of course, if the mother had made the right decision and killed her baby before it was born, well this wouldn't be a problem, now would it?

Of course, if you're well-off enough to be a Democrat, the numbers are different. You probably make about $30 an hour, so that same tank of gas costs you about 2 hours work. And since you have all that extra money that you aren't using for food and the like, you can likely afford a newer car. Like a hybrid or something. A car that gets better gas mileage than your $10/hr cohort gets from their 10 year old Prizm. So in fact, our well-to-do Democrat would spend even less than $40 bucks a week on gas.

Our Democrat friend also has enough money to keep his new car tuned up and running efficiently, unlike our first guy. Which of course keeps the gas mileage even higher.

So our first guy is barely able to keep his car even running, thanks to the Democratic party and their "no drill, no refine, add on more taxes" policy.

Imagine how crappy it would be if they weren't the defenders of the poor.

National Security. Here's a great idea: Let's go to every psychotic dictator in the world, and ask them to "pretty please with a cherry on top" deign to have a "dialogue" with the president. If it isn't too much trouble. If they're an Islamic psycho, that's even better. (Remember, Islam is the religion of peace, and if you deny that, they'll slit your throat while praising Allah).

Yeah, great plan.

Of course, we must also remember that they support the troops. By calling them "children", "baby killers", "losers", "ignorant", "puppets" and so on. And by using the media to tell terrorists and hostile countries what our strategy is. How the hell do these jackasses sleep at night?

The Environment. Oooh, this is a good one. We mustn't drill for oil, because that's bad for the environment. At least when the US does it. If China and Cuba drill for oil just outside our borders, we'll ignore it. And if Russia, Venezuela, or Iran drill for oil off their coasts, well, apparently it doesn't hurt the environment. Because we know how much they care about the birdies, right?

Can 't build refineries, either. Might cause pollution. And we all know the horribly bad safety record of the nuclear power industry in our country. Every month it seems there's yet another accident, killing hundreds of people while releasing yet another cloud of radioactive gas across the heartland of America.

But at least they favor the most efficient form of energy, wind. Why, a few years back, there was a plan to build a wind farm off the coast of Massachusetts. A plan that was defeated by that evil empire of Republicans, led by that reactionary fascist Kennedy family. Can't allow wind farms to cut into the profits on their oil stocks- er, to sully the view from their estate, and perhaps even interfere with their sailing.

Hypocritical bastards.

Oh, and if you really want to be appalled, then go to one of the rallies against BusHitler, Cheney, the War, and all the other great evils of America. And count the number of signs bearing the likeness of such environmental defenders as Kim Jong Il, Josef Stalin, and Fidel Castro. Why these men are towers of strength when it comes to protecting the trees and fishes. The enlightened policies of Kim, for instance, ensure that nobody in his democratic paradise touches any trees. Not since they were all cut down for fuel, that is. And the people there don't eat meat either. Or much of anything else, for that matter.

But thank God Kim doesn't support the war in Iraq. Hell, he even endorses the Messiah himself, Obama!

And by the way, for all you brilliant people out there, which do you suppose uses more oil- pumping oil down a pipeline from northern Alaska to the Panhandle, or moving a gigantic oil tanker from The Persian Gulf to Los Angeles?

I'll give you some time to think about that one. Hope your head doesn't explode.

Electoral Politics. Here's a goodie. It's time to vote for Hope and Change. And a change of hope. And the hope that change will come, if we only hope enough. And to change our hopes.

Come on now- what the hell does all of this really mean? Hope and Change is a completely asinine platform. It's pure unadulterated gibberish. It means nothing. NOTHING!!!

And even if it did have some significance, it would be bad. Hitler promised the German people "change". And boy, did he ever deliver. Along with a healthy dose of "hope". At least until the bombs started dropping on their cities, killing thousands of civilians. To go along with the tens of thousand young men dying all across Europe.

But remember the key fact: He did deliver on his promise of hope and change.

Who the hell decided that it was a good idea to vote for Obama for president? And why the hell did they decide it? He's a complete and utter nothing. An empty suit, promising to fix every problem, if only you'll elect him.

And how will he fix every problem? All together now- "With hope and change".

A side note. I have one liberal friend that I can stand. And once, when I commented on The Messiah being an empty suit, he replied that I was mostly correct, but that the occasional concrete idea put forth by this moron is dangerour and scary. It's perhaps better that we not know what he has in mind, since his public pronouncements are terrifying enough.

But the good news is, he understands our pain- hell, he has to spend lots of money on organic arugula. And on private schools and camps for his devil spawn.

Good thing his wife gets $300,000 a year for doing.... something. Nobody's really sure what she does, but she must be good at it. After all, she got a big promotion just a couple years ago. Right after he was elected to the Senate. A great time for the Holy Family, huh?

But don't fear. He's gonna change the way politics are done in this country. He's brilliant and can handle anything. Look at how he's already cured the problem of race in this country, by giving his friend the "Reverend" Wright a great big national pulpit to preach. Until he became a liability. Then he had to go.

And by the way, why does this idiot make such a big issue of being "Black"? He's half white. And was raised by his white relatives. So why is he so adamant about being identified with them?

Cuz it's convenient, baby. A week or so ago, I had a chat with a lovely woman of mixed ethnicity. She's working on her doctorate, and studying how multi-racial people self-identify. Essentially, she believes, the decision comes down to which race gives the greatest political advantages. Or, to put it another way, which race allows one to play the victim card most effectively.

But onward. So this jackass preaches about hope and change, and the media all wet themselves in adoration. And they ignore his constant stream of stupid comments, while also waxing lyrically about what a great speaker he is. Uh huh.

Of course, this year's election is one that we Conservatives have no stake in. It's bad enough we have a hard-core socialist representing the Democratic Party. But no, we also have a moderate Democrat representing the "Republican" Party. This other idiot is so busy being the Maverick, that he doesn't even realize which party he belongs to. He doesn't give a rat's ass about conservatives like me. Because we don't know anything. And we're wrong about what this country needs, dadgum it. Trust in the Maverick!

Or the Messiah. Doesn't matter. Either of the M&M Boys will do. They've got pretty much the same stances anyway. And the ones that they differ on are essentially cosmetic anyway.

Bah. I could go on for hours, but why bother. I've said enough. In conclusion, the Democrats believe it's okay to kill babies. They support high prices and high taxes, but only because they care about the poor. They favor policies to protect the environment, but only so long as it doesn't affect them, and only so long as it forces us to hand over billions of dollars to other countries. And they favor a strong defense, except for the part about supporting the military.

So here's the final thought: Why would any rational person ever-EVER- support the Democrats, or ever vote for one of them? My mind is literally incapable of understanding it.

Rot in hell, democrats. Just piss off and rot in hell.

I'm floored. Today, as I drove to work, I passed a car with a couple bumper stickers on it. The first one really caught my attention, the second one was worth a mere eye-roll.

As I said, the second is a Kumbaya, "we are all one" piece of drivel. But the first...

Today being Monday, it's Mark Steyn Day at G-T-W. Time to read the latest writings from the ever-interesting Steyn.

But today is a frightening day. Mr. Steyn and a magazine which dared to print one of his very popular articles is being harassed by the Canadian government's most evil creation: The Human Rights Commission, a monster that exists in various forms in every province. The whole purpose of these commissions is to harass innocent people that dare to say things which are politically incorrect.

How bad is it? Consider this fact: Not once, has the person being investigated been found innocent. Every single hearing (and there have been over 30) has ended with somebody being found guilty of whatever "hate crime" they're accused of.

This is about free speech. Canada claims to allow it, but they're getting closer and closer to absolute censorship. This, my friends, is the future of the Western World, if the ObaMessiah and his liberal minions get their way. It's all about multi-culturalism, and protecting people from getting their little feelings hurt.

Everything proves everything

I've been chewing on this one for a while. Last week, I saw a post someplace- probably Ace again- that mentioned the latest "proof" of global warming. I chewed on it, saw it again on Grouchy Old Cripple, chewed some more, and then decided to get writin'.

So here goes. Last week, a new study came out from Germany, which reveals the exciting news that, while global warming is still occurring, it will take a holiday for the next decade or so.

Why, you ask? Because the earth will compensate for our carbon dioxide excess. Naturally, and without any help.

Now contemplate this for a moment. The earth can adjust to offset increases in CO2, without any help. The planet doesn't even need to buy carbon offsets from The Source Of All Knowledge, His Eminence AlGore. It just does it!

The more I thought about this article and this study, the more it bothered me. On an intellectual level. What we're actually seeing here is an article in a scientific journal which has major issues, to say the least. The logic of it all is astounding, and not in a good way.

So let's play a bit of an intellectual exercise here. For the sake of argument, we'll assume the following: 1) The earth is warming. 2) The warming is caused by mankind.

Let's stress here that this is strictly an exercise. I don't agree with either of these assumptions, for many reasons.

Okay, so the earth is warming. What this latest study says is that, while the warming is occurring, it'll take a decade off- that the earth might actually cool for the next 10 years, despite the fact that our actions are continuing down the same path as before.

In other words, global warming is continuing, even if the globe is cooling.

Brilliant, no? Disprove this one. The theory says that global temperatures are increasing, and that it's caused by mankind. If global temperatures rise, it proves global warming. However, if they fall or stay the same, then it's okay, because the theory of global warming also predicts this.

It's called covering all bases.

So here's a recap: If temperatures rise, it's because mankind is using too much CO2, and affecting the earth. If temperatures fall, it's because the earth is compensating (somehow) for the fact that mankind is using too much CO2 and affecting the earth.

But if the earth can compensate for our (presumed) errors in the short term, then is it not possible that it can do the same over the longer term? In other words, is it not possible that, as many have suggested, the earth itself (or nature) can survive and flourish despite our efforts? That we are not the masters of nature that we think we are? If the earth can adjust to stop temperatures from increasing for a decade, why not a century? Or a millenia? Or an Eon?

It crossed my mind from the outset that this is a deliberate act, to buy time. It's been shown recently that temperatures are not increasing, but falling from the (modern) peak year of (if I recall correctly) 1998. But now this study will let people off the hook, and give the global warming fanatics another 10 years to come up with another study to prove that it's happening.

At some point, the world will be in the grips of an ice age, and global warming fans will be claiming that it's just a temporary thing, and that in another 8 years the world will be too hot for human life.

The whole thing strikes me as a brilliant bit of propaganda. Skeptics have long maintained that we're not able to affect the weather over the entire world as much as global warming believers claim. Now, the argument has been co-opted to "prove" global warming again. If temperatures increase, it's the obvious proof of Warming. But now, if they decrease, this latest study has taken that argument away from the Skeptics- after all, scientists predicted a short-term decrease. And it still fits within the framework of global warming "proof".

But on a rational basis, it seems like nonsense. To me at least. For the next 10 years, any attempt by skeptics to argue, using empirical data, that the entire concept of "global warming" is junk, can be tossed aside, since we know that the cooling that we (presumably) would be experiencing is "predicted" by other data. My guess is that sometime within the next 10 years there will be another new study that will disprove the latest argument of the skeptics.

Not really, but so the media will inform us all.

The big issue here is rationality. As this new study shows, everything "proves" global warming- and nothing that seems to disprove it actually does so. If one scientist says that the occurrence of A proves that B is happening, great. It might not actually "prove" B, but it gives us a baseline. Now we're being told that the non-occurrence of A (or even better, what logicians call Not A) also "proves" B. As does the occurrence of C, Not C, D and Not D, and so on.

It's no longer possible to make an argument against global warming. Not because there are no rational points to be made, but simply because it isn't allowed. And because any argument that does slip through the cracks is met with a "no you're wrong" approach which we're then told "proves" the argument wrong. Not to mention that the skeptic is of course being paid to deny global warming.

When rational, honest to God scientists tell you that you simply can't argue against a conclusion anymore, and that there's no room for skepticism, then I smell a rat.

My final thought is this: If everything "proves" global warming is happening, then nothing "proves" it. You can't have it every way.

Wow. Three solid months without a thing to say. Actually, that isn't true: I had things to say, just lacked the energy and interest to say them. Too much ground to cover, so I'll keep it short and sweet.

Bush sorta sucks. McCain kinda sucks. Clinton sucks. Obama really sucks. Carter sucks far worse than even Obama. Iran sucks. North Korea sucks. So do Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Hamas, Hezbollah, al-Sadr, Matt Millen, and most everybody else. The ex-wife of one friend sucks. The soon-to-be-ex-wife of another friend sucks even more (and not in the good way). The "friend" who kept telling me how much she wanted to see me and then blew me off sucks. Microsoft and Sony suck.

Hope I haven't missed anybody.

Just remember. When in doubt, assume they suck.

Tic-Tac-Toe, two travesties in a row

Once again, this week we "celebrate" a couple of the biggest travesties in the history of the US. First, we have Michael King Day, and then we have the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade.

"Michael King Day?" I hear you cry. "What do you mean by that?" Well, you can look it up. Michael King was a plagiarist, adulterer, and possibly a Communist stooge, who was killed in Memphis some years back. Thanks to the imagination of his father, he's better known as "Martin Luther King". But his legal name remained Michael.

It's long been known that his doctoral dissertation was largely plagiarized. According to Boston University, where he "earned" his PhD, revoking the degree that he earned only by violating academic standards in the most basic way "would serve no purpose".

Great. I'll try to remember that if I ever decide to work on a PhD. Cheat, because if you get caught, revoking the degree would serve no purpose.

Of course, it appears that using other people's work without attribution was the secret to King's success. Hell, it's even possible that his "I have a dream" speech was plagiarized. Along with most of his academic work.

Quite the heroic image, no? An intellectual who showed no real sign of intellect, other than the ability to copy the works of others directly from their sources.

And his womanizing was apparently pretty blatant. There are allegations from fairly reliable sources that he was into orgies, possibly (like his self-proclaimed successor Jesse Jackson) using funds from his religious groups to buy the women. Now we all know that temptation exists, especially for a charismatic, famous man. And yes, I understand that it could be hard to resist, and that one can even claim that he's fighting his own weak character as a sinner. Great. But the point is, he failed miserably. Doesn't speak all that well of him, does it? Especially when you compare his failings to that of other religious leaders. Like the popes of the past couple centuries. They take an oath of celibacy, and live up to it. King took an oath of marriage, and couldn't handle that. Who would you say was a better man?

He also worked with a number of people that had connections to the Communist Party. Now, I'm not gonna sit here and prattle on about Commies, the Red Menace and all that. But it's been pretty well established by now that the Communist Party in the US was taking orders from Moscow, and spying against the US. And King knowingly associated with people that were involved there. It's even possible that some of his marches and actions were completely supported by the Communist Party.

And this man deserves a unique honor, by being granted his own holiday? What a crock!

Next we have another great anniversary for the week. Today, January 22, is the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. Certainly one of the two worst decisions in the history of the US Supreme Court (the other, for the record, being Dred Scott).

In Roe, the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution grants women the right to abortion. Interesting, for two reasons. First off, if you actually read the Constitution, it clearly states (in the 10th amendment) the following: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

I'm not a legal scholar, so perhaps I'm missing something here. The way I read it, unless the Constitution specifically grants the US government authority on a topic, it's none of their damn business. And I've read the Constitution several times. Try as I might, I've yet to see the word "abortion" appear in it. I've also never seen any mention of "a woman's right to choose", or any other code words.

So as far as I can tell, abortion is a matter for the States. The Supreme Court didn't even have the legal basis to examine the question- it's not a Federal matter. But they took on the case, and then, Lo and Behold! discovered this previously unknown and unmentioned right was there all along. See, look, there it is in black and white.

Except of course that it isn't there. I never read the Constitution before Roe v Wade, and as mentioned, have yet to find the topic in there since. So clearly I don't possess the necessary tools to discover and decide on such weighty issues.

But I do know what the Constitution says about changing the document, or "amending" it. There's a strict procedure to be followed, and it involves a lot more than 7 guys suddenly noticing something that wasn't there a moment before.

I have mixed feelings about abortion anyway. I personally oppose it, but unless I'm directly involved, I don't see that it's any of my business. There are compelling- to me at least- arguments against it on many levels, but no matter. My biggest complaint is that I don't see why I should be forced to pay for abortions for women, by means of my tax dollars. I also think that, unless there's a Constitutional Amendment, the legality of the procedure should be a matter for each state. If one doesn't agree with how their particular state rules on the matter, then it's perfectly acceptable (and allowable) to move to another. Problem solved.

In my case, I don't think I care that much about it. I'd probably stay where I was, and deal with the issue or not.

So what we have is an issue where the highest court in the US decided to violate the highest law in the US (which they are supposed to be the ultimate authorities on) in order to legislate something which the majority of the people were opposed to, as a means of circumventing Congress (which actually has the role of legislating) and the States, which are also involved in the process of amending the Constitution.

How many errors or violations of Law did the Supreme Court commit, according to my description above? By my count, the correct answer is "more than enough to be impeached for abuse of power".

Yet here we are, 35 years later, still bound by this asinine decision. And not only does one political party make it the centerpiece of their platform, but they actually try to make compliance with this piece of judicial garbage a requirement for someone to become a Supreme Court Justice.

(Of course, I could go on at length about the stupidity of this attitude. After all, isn't a judge supposed to listen to all the facts and then make a decision? Yet here, the Democrats want a nominee to promise they'll cast the proper vote, based on a purely theoretical question. Imagine a potential juror stating that, in a murder trial for which he might be chosen, he would find the defendant guilty, regardless of the circumstances. Even worse, imagine him announcing that he would cast such a vote in a trial 20 years down the road. Absurd, no? But yet, the left insists that there's nothing wrong with this type of demand.)

To sum up then, it's a great week for American history. A week where we honor the patron saint of plagiarism and adultery, and then follow it up with a celebration of (possibly) the most disgusting display of tyranny in the history of the US Constitution. A moment when a group of 7 men decided that the US needed to go in a different direction, and it was up to them to decide how things should be.

In my mind, I imagine Burger, the Chief Justice at the time of Roe nodding to his allies and announcing, in his best Captain Picard voice "Make it so". And thus, out of nothingness, a Constitutional Right was born.

Michael King would be proud.

According to an article I found on Yahoo, a scientist has found a possible explanation for syphilis. It might have been brought back to Europe by Columbus and his merry men.

If true, this ought to bring an end to all the whining about how terrible Columbus was to the Indians. He brought them smallpox and civilization. They (presumably) gave him venereal disease, gold, and chocolate.

Civilization and disease versus hedonistic sensual delights. Quite a trade-off, no?

I suppose I could make a comment about American Indian culture leading to rap "music", but it would be too easy.

Wow. So Harvard, carrying on their great tradition of intellect, has just found out something incredible: Most of the newest security measures at airports.... doesn't make flying any more secure.

Wow again. I wonder how long it took them to figure that out. And how much money. But hey- it was likely worth every dime to find out that forcing an 80 year old man to remove his shoes and belt probably won't prevent him from hijacking a plane and flying it into a building.

Sometime after September 11, I recall reading that a senior Israeli intelligence official testified before Congress. He asserted that airport security in the US was excellent for what it was intended to do- make people feel more secure. As for the reality of security, versus the perception?

Not so much.

Oh, and here's another brilliant piece of information that the Harvard group ferreted out:

"We noticed that new airport screening protocols were implemented immediately after news reports of terror threats,"

Wow cubed. I never would have seen that one coming either.

If the TSA is willing to fork over a large sum of money- say $10 million or more- I promise to study the incidences of airport hijackings over the past 10 years or so, and find a darned effective way of finding out whether somebody is a higher risk than others for being a hijacker. It'll take some serious research, and might step on a few toes (though they'll all still have shoes on), and might come to a completely un-PC conclusion, but I have a theory in my mind regarding potential hijackers. And a way to possibly even identify them.

And I could have the results back before say, the end of the year. Or I could drag it out- er, study it more in depth- for another 6 months.

Or, for $20 million, I could study it in a conclusive manner, and take an entire year. And I guarantee my results: I'll manage to root out at least one thing that terrorists have in common. Probably even more.

Toss in a few more millions, and I'll come up with viable methods to protect passengers.

Here let me point out an important fact. Not once has a flight been hijacked and flown into a building with me on board.

Oh, and a final note: Just to show that my services are the best available, I'll give TSA a piece of free advice. Exceptional cases make bad law. Or to put it another way, passing regulations to prevent an incident that already occurred, simply to ensure that you're seen doing something, is a really bad idea.

The Hell you say!

Wow. Didn't realize it had been almost six weeks since I posted. I've been trying to find something to write about, but much of what I've seen online has been too boring.

At any rate, here's something new. The Mitchell Report just came out on steroids in baseball. And the top name on the list? Roger Clemens.

Huh. Who would ever have thought that a player, who saw a significant improvement in performance when his numbers should have gone down, might be juicing? Assuming of course his name wasn't Bonds?

It's hardly the first time Clemens has been fingered, but it is the first time he's been officially and with solid evidence, named. At least to my knowledge.

Even I have to scratch my head here. I'm not usually one to look for a racist conspiracy of ex-Klanners behind every tree, but it is kinda odd. Black player sees his numbers improve (or at worst, not drop off as they normally do) as he ages, and everyone knows he's juicing. White player sees his numbers improve (or at worst, not drop off as they normally do) as he ages; and everyone shrugs.

So now a couple of the biggest names in Major League Baseball have been officially tainted. What to do....

There will be a lot of discussion about banning Clemens and Bonds (and others) from their place in the Hall of Fame. Normally, I'd be all for it- I still think that Pete Rose deserves to be locked out- but in this case, there's a problem. The steroid problem has been around for years, and everyone knew it. As I mentioned, rumors about Clemens are hardly new, and as for Bonds, everyone knew he was guilty. Ditto for some of the others mentioned.

The problem is, juicing was never looked on with the same sense of outrage as gambling. The owners knew it was happening, but they ignored it, since home run chases and records get fans into the seats. The players knew it, but most ignored it- why criticize someone when you might end up in their footsteps a few years down the road? And the Player's Union ignored it because that's what unions do.

So now the dirty linen is hanging out on the line. My thought is that the players who are named- or the players to be named later- should be allowed into the Hall of Fame, if their careers support it. Clemens was a shoo-in anyway, as was Bonds. Others, perhaps. Even Jose Canseco can make a strong claim to membership. Let them in, perhaps with an asterisk. Or even better, put their plaques front and center in a wing of the Hall devoted to Cheaters. Give them a shot, but make sure that everyone knows their inflated numbers (particularly for those like Clemens and Bonds, whose numbers got ridiculous at the end of their career) were the result of cheating.

Maybe just come right out and call it "the Hall of Shame".

It's too bad it came to this. But everybody knew what was happening, and thus everyone must bear a bit of the blame. Don't sanction those who did it, because they felt it was necessary. Would any of us do the same, if we had the opportunity to lengthen a very very profitable career? Not to mention the fact that inflated statistics mean inflated paychecks.

It's a mess. Baseball had it coming, and they can't play innocent anymore. The Mitchell Report blames everyone, and it should. Now let's just get the game fixed, and prevent it from happening again.

That way, the next time someone cheats, the people in charge will have an easier choice. After a cheating scandal rocked baseball many years ago, they made gambling illegal. Thus when that piece of slimy crap named Pete Rose was caught, there was no difficulty in deciding what to do.

Let's make it just as easy for the future commissioners. Sanction the guilty here, start a serious testing regimen, and make the rules explicit.

Problem solved.

Parents abusing children

I decided to go out today and wander around the shopping mall. Quite exciting, if you're into watching zombies walk around and spend money. It was a nice reminder of why I so rarely go to the mall anymore.

But there was one interesting moment. I was walking past one of the ear-piercing carts (I estimate there were about 428 of them), and saw a guy just taking a seat in their chair, with an infant in his arms. I remember thinking that he was probably getting the baby's ears pierced. A few minutes later, I was walking past again, and I saw that the obvious conclusion was correct. The baby was screaming like her (?) little heart was breaking- I have no doubt that getting this done was pretty painful.

And next to them stood Mom, smiling proudly at her crying baby.

What the hell is wrong with these people? This child was literally an infant- I would question whether the baby was even a year old- and I doubt very much that she was able to communicate to her parents that she wanted her ears pierced. So they did it on their own, to satisfy their own egos.

At the expense of their child.

I wonder how often there are complications from ear-piercing. Because if there is any risk at all- and I wonder how well trained a 20 year old woman is- then I'd suspect it's worse for a baby. And I for one would never subject a baby to that.

But the other thought that crossed my mind was whether this could harm the child in any lasting, psychological sense. A child, especially one that young, is incapable of taking care of him or herself. She trusts Mommy and Daddy to do what it best for her. And then they pay someone to shove a needle through their ears. For what? Again, their own ego, I guess.

I would intuitively suspect that this sort of thing goes deep into a baby's memory bank, and stays there whispering "don't trust them, they'll do things to hurt you" at certain times.

If it weren't for the fact that I would never wish that outcome on anyone, I'd almost hope that this poor little girl grows up to cause massive problems for her parents.

Because they deserve it. I don't know why this is allowed- shouldn't it be considered child abuse? If it's wrong to spank a child on the rear for misbehaving, then why is it acceptable to pay somebody to shove a needle through their tiny and still not quite completely developed ear. Without their consent or knowledge.

Sick, sick, sick.

Yet another bit of Islamic stupidity.

Or, perhaps it isn't the Muslims that are stupid, but Britain as a whole. Last week, it was a grocery store that decided to let them decide what they'll sell. Now, it's medical students who refuse to learn about things that offend them- like alcohol, venereal disease, women, and on and on.

And they aren't getting bitch-slapped for it, which is kind of amazing to me. I suppose that, in the end, if they're booted from school, that kinda accomplishes the end result, but still.

What is it with these people? If you're so messed up that you can't control yourself when you see a woman's ankle, chin or whatever, then you need to be locked up, and subjected to serious therapy.

And I suspect most people would be. But not if you're Muslim. Then, you complain to the authorities, and they'll support you. It's happened at least once that I recall- a woman was "blamed" for her own rape, because the man couldn't control himself.

It's becoming intolerable. In some communities in Scandinavia, women are forced to cover their heads to keep from being physically and verbally abused. Others are dying their hair brown, so they don't look European.

And yet, the Islamists still are being allowed to make even more rules for the rest of us.

Britain is very close to the tipping point, if not actually beyond it. It's now an Islamic nation, but it simply refuses to admit it yet.

And I used to be a complete Anglophile. Sigh.

A lot of people wonder how the war is making us safer since there are still terrorists out there who want to kill us. Well, when the terrorists come to kill me, I'm like, "Why are you guys trying to kill me?"

And they're like, "Because of the war in Iraq!"

And I'm like, "I didn't have anything to do with that. I've been here in America the whole time minding my own business. You should take this up with the soldiers in Iraq."

And the terrorists are like, "We will!"

So they go to Iraq to kill the soldiers, but the soldiers have lots of guns and they kill the terrorists back. And that's why we've had no terrorist attacks in America in the past couple years but lots of dead terrorists.

I've probably explained this before, but it's always worth repeating.

The 6 P's in action

Remember the six P's? Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance...? I think we might have actual proof of that here.

Once again we have some wacked-out kid going to a school and starting to shoot people. Fortunately, the only person killed was the shooter, who offed himself.

At this point, insert the obligatory "sorry for his family, poor child had problems and was ignored by the system and whatever else" comments.

What strikes me though, is the fact that nobody else was killed. Why? Well, probably there are a number of explanations, but the fact that struck me on reading the article is that there seemed to be a plan for this.

At last! A school that seems to understand that bad things happen, and that if you prepare for it and it never happens, you're better off than if you do nothing and disaster strikes.

'...Student Latisha Hill told one television station students began taking cover when the emergency command was announced and she locked herself in a bathroom until police knocked on the door and let her out.

"All I know is I heard the principal yell 'code blue,"' Hill said.'

The school had a "code word" and when it was announced, it appears that students reacted properly- seeking cover and concealment, like well-trained soldiers do, and waiting for the authorities to arrive. No indications of mass panic, or little sheep sitting there waiting for the wolf to come and get them.

And that's not all: There's another, even more amazing piece of information in the article. The CEO of the school district seems to have a sense of perspective also.

'[School district CEO Eugene] Sanders said he was canceling classes at all Cleveland public schools on Thursday so that parents, students and faculty could "take a breather" and "put this in perspective."'

No bleating about "grief councilors" or any of that drivel. They're simply talking about "put[ting] this in perspective".

Wow. Simply wow. I am so impressed right now with the Cleveland School District. I hope that they keep this up, and don't give in to the whiny leftists who will want an army of councilors to come in and have healing circles for the victims, or whatever else they do.

Someone with an obvious problem came into the school and did something insane. The school district was prepared for it, and apparently helped prevent things from getting too out of hand.

That's the advantage of planning, folks.

I salute the Cleveland School District, and the faculty, staff and students at SuccessTech.

Plan for the worst, and you just might prevent it.

The future of health care

Scary stuff indeed. The absolute best points made about the whole thing are in the comments. Specifically, comments 7, and especially 37.

Not sure how this is even remotely legal. Or ethical. Which takes me back to comment 37.

It's all reminiscent of the whole issue of fathers being unjustly accused of child abuse by bitter, vengeful, psychotic wives, which hopefully peaked back in the late 80s and early 90s. (An issue with which my family unfortunately became quite familiar).

The ultimate example of stupidity with the abuse issue was a man who was almost sent to jail for molesting his daughter. Why? Because when she was being grilled by the authorities (mind you, the girl was about 5 years old) she said that she and Daddy went swimming. They asked her if she and Daddy wore clothes, and she replied that they didn't.

Of course, being 5 years old, she didn't get the nuance: no, they didn't wear clothes. When you go swimming, you wear bathing suits, not clothes.

Fortunately that guy was lucky.

I confess that I don't understand how this doctor could do such a thing. Asking about their parents seems pretty far out of line anyway. Reporting it to the police seems illegal on at least 2 or 3 levels. Not to mention, incredibly unethical.

But hey. Gotta protect the kids, even from Mommy and Daddy. Regardless of whether they're doing anything wrong or not.

Shine on you crazy diamond

Some time ago- back in February, to be precise- I did a post on the meltdown of Britney Spears. I personally liked that post then, and still do. But I've steered away from talking about her problems since. However, I think it's about time to make a few observations. Because at this point, she's heading for complete destruction, and everyone seems to know it except her.

At the time, I said that her problems were due to her success at an early age, her desire to "have it all", substance abuse (presumed), the entertainment "system", her messed up family, yadda yadda yadda. I stand by that.

The problem is that she still had a solid chance to recover, both personally and professionally. Now, while miracles do happen, she's far worse off than she was 8 months ago.

Which is pretty amazing, considering where she was at back then.

Her comeback-thus far- is a disaster. Her kids have been taken from her, she might be charged with abuse, and yet another dirtbag "lover" is telling tales about their night of sex. And this one might have the video evidence.

Supposedly, she's going to be touring in support of her latest musical offering. At this point, it looks as though it'll be a disaster, if it even happens. Early reviews of her latest songs are pretty poor, and she's embarrassed herself every time she's performed publicly.

Of course, she's also embarrassed herself pretty much every time she's set foot in public, so that last point isn't terribly surprising.

She's closing in on a professional Black Hole. She's right on the event horizon, circling the drain, etc. If, or more likely when, her latest album flops, she'll be pretty much finished professionally. With no trace of a career left, she'll be more and more irrelevant than ever, and the shambles that is her personal life will also go downhill. She could well be heading for Dana Plato territory.

This is all more or less background. In reading more about what she's up to these days, I think she's only got a couple good options left. Even after the disaster that's probably imminent, she might be able to get it together. But how?

I think the first Good Thing that could happen would be a spiritual awakening of some kind. I'm not terribly religious, but if she had some kind of revelation, it would be great. Suddenly waking up one morning and realizing that she's kind of a loser- and definitely a bimbo- and deciding to look for something better is the sort of thing that would salvage her life, if not her career.

The next possibility would be for her to find a new manager. A nice Drill Sergeant type: somebody who's willing and able to kick her butt. What she needs is a lot of tough love. She needs to get into rehab- and stay there until she's actually beaten her addictions. Then she needs to get her lazy, chunky butt into shape (not that I'm in a great position to criticize, but I'm also not an entertainer). After that, she'd need to mend fences with family and friends, and finish up with a "contrition tour" of various magazines and TV shows. Oprah would of course be the crowning moment. Go on Oprah, admit to your mistakes, cry (hopefully with complete sincerity), show off your new look- sexy but understated and more mature (wearing underwear and keeping it hidden is a necessity), perform your newest song (which needs to be written and produced by the best talent money can buy), and you're golden.

The third option is finding A Good Man. This one is pretty unlikely, since she's been pretty bad on this count. But if she could find someone that she could really truly care for- and who really cared for her in return- it might inspire her. But he'd probably have to be similar to the Drill Sergeant. He'd have to be willing to put his foot down and tell her "if you want me, you have to earn me, cuz at this point you're a mess."

I'm a complete cynic, but I'm also a bit of a romantic at heart. It's worked before, right? But her new man has to be both tough and supportive. And as someone who spent most of his military career around Drill Sergeants, I have to say that's kind of their job. (The good ones, at any rate.) So options 2 and 3 seem to go together.

She needs to be lucky enough to find someone, and smart enough to trust him (or her) completely, whether as a lover or as a manager. Which again, sadly, takes us back to the realm of shaking our heads and doubting her judgment.

Here's hoping she finds at least a couple of the above. Unfortunately for her though, you don't usually meet them in tanning salons and nightclubs.

If she doesn't get lucky and find one of the three Good Things, then where will she end up? Well, we've already mentioned the Dana Plato "child star" suicide or accidental death disaster. Hopefully she'll avoid that one. But then what's left?

Well she can always go onto the reality show circuit. I'd say that in a few years, she'll be a strong candidate to appear on Survivor, Big Brother, or one of those other garbage shows that I never ever watch (really).

Or I bet Playboy would give her a shot- assuming she loses some weight (though airbrushing can fix a lot). Penthouse would also love to have her, but they'd probably want a bit more "action".

Both of those would be an admission that she's desperate, and as a career move, historically posing nude doesn't work out. Need proof? See Dana Plato again.

Retirement is the least bad choice, assuming she manages to hold onto her money without giving it all to her Ex for child support. Then perhaps in a decade or two, she can write a book (well... collect money from a publisher to have somebody write a book) about her rise and fall. Who knows? By that point, she might be forgotten enough to stage a genuine comeback. Especially if she were to get coaching in singing, acting, and dancing so that her new act would impress people.

Of course, she could always just take some time and try to better herself. Enroll in college, travel the world, work for charity, or enter a convent. But I don't see her having the desire for anything like that.

In any case, she's going to have to make a major choice soon. Disaster looms, and a successful album supported by a successful tour will only delay the inevitable fall. And make it that much worse when it does come.

As I said back in February, "Good luck kid. You need it."

Here's one that I'll toss in for Nick at RightMichigan. And anybody else that wants to see what happens when liberals run amuck.

Michigan is my home. I was born there, and have lived there most of my life. But right now, I'm in New Mexico. Part of it is personal, but things in Michigan are completely screwed up. The governor is clueless, and thinks it's a good idea to fly to Europe for a week or two, and come back with a promise of 150 new jobs for the State..

Of course, while she was gone the State lost a couple thousand jobs, not to mention the money that it cost to send her there. (And sadly, to bring her back).

But she and her fellow Dummocrats came up with a plan. Just raise taxes, and the problems will be solved! Sure, there's the whole thing about people having less money to spend. And the part where businesses have to cut jobs to save money. And the part where the spending by the State Government is still high...

But hey, raising taxes will fix everything, right? And even if it doesn't, well she's only been in office for 5 years, so it's clearly the fault of her predecessor. That's the argument made by all good Dummocrats, including one of my siblings. Of course, she works in education, so that could be part of her problem. And she is the one that once told me that if Bin Laden demands the US become a Muslim nation, then we should just declare it, and he'd leave us alone.

So you can imagine how much attention I pay to her political musings.

In any case, it's been interesting to see the "progress" that Michigan has made in the last few years. Most of the larger cities are dying, people are making less money, companies are moving out, and the government works on the logic that throwing water on a drowning man is the way to save him. Sure, because the fact that Michigan is economically worse off than any other state is just a coincidence.

Which is not to claim that everything is Jenny-Poo's fault. I rode a Greyhound from Michigan to Colorado some 20 years ago, visiting another sister. I sat for a while with a guy that was moving from Michigan back to his home state of Nebraska. As I recall the tale, he had moved up there a few years before, for whatever reason. While in Michigan, he opened a small shop. After a few years, it went under, and he was bailing out. The one thing that has stayed in my mind all these years is his comment "Michigan is a horrible place for small business".

Friends of mine that own small businesses today agree with that statement. So there is a problem with the system, and it isn't all the fault of the current administration. But it does need to be fixed.

(Of course, my brilliant sister says that it's all the fault of the previous governor, and that Jenny-Poo can't be held responsible. When I point out that she's in charge and thus has to fix things, she retorts that Jenny-Poo shouldn't be held responsible for the failings of another. At which point I mention that she has the job, things are broken, and therefore it's her responsibility to try and fix it; which earns me a "well it shouldn't be". I make the observation that things are worse now than when J-P took office, and are getting worse every day, and she says that it's proof of how bad things really were when J-P came in. I'm honestly not sure why I even bother, except that I hate stupidity.)

I could go on, but it would take forever to explain the problems. All I can say is that I greatly prefer Michigan to New Mexico, and I want to be back there with my family and friends, but I just don't know if it's possible. Next year, I'll probably be heading someplace different- this whole New Mexico thing was prompted by a deployment to Iraq in my family- but I just don't know if heading home is a valid option. Higher taxes, high unemployment, high crime, and so on just isn't a strong environment for someone who needs to start over at the point when he should be able to take things easier.

I wish I could head back today. Instead, I might not be able to ever return. And that breaks my heart.

A child's playground

It's about the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. It's a fun family event, sponsored by Miller. Miller Beer: The official beer of public orgies.

I'm tossing in the link, but I cannot stress enough that this link deserves the highest possible grade of NSFW. If you aren't into public masturbation, oral sex, and men abusing themselves in ways that God didn't really intend, then DO NOT click through.

The saddest part is that my headline isn't a joke. If you do click and you make it through far enough, you will see small children dressed "appropriately" for the events. The outfits aren't really disgusting, but seeing a couple of cute little 5 year old girls wearing leather and surrounded by this sort of thing is disconcerting to say the least.

Look, I'm all about personal choice and personal freedom. If a person is gay, terrific. I don't roll that way, but I'm not gonna judge you if you do. If you like to be spanked, whipped or whatever, good for you. Again, it ain't my thing, but roll on. I have my little quirks as well, and I don't want to be judged for them.

But then, I don't run around advertising my sexual fantasies. And especially not on public streets. With little children around.

Though I admit this last point is questionable- after all, the kids are there because their parents take them. Which to my mind opens up a whole other can of worms regarding their suitability as parents. But I suppose that if social services looked into the parenting of the men in question, that would be "homophobia", so they get a pass.

This is just too much. I don't understand how this is supposed to convince anybody that homosexuality is okay. To my mind, it shows how out of touch these people are, and gets them shunted further and further out of the mainstream. Fine, I get it: celebrate who you are, and don't feel guilty about it, because you aren't alone. But it's 2007, and if someone still feels abnormal because he or she is an exhibitionist, then he/she certainly has never been on the internet.

Go ahead and do your thing. Just don't shove it in the faces of the rest of us. Because it's too much for some of us to take. I have no problem with gay rights, but this is turning me from neutrality to opposition.

I wish I drank beer, just so I could swear off Miller products forever.

Thanks to Ace of Spades, which linked to this editorial. A journalist has apparently found an old copy of the Constitution, and then read it. And found something amazing: The Bill of Rights has an amendment in there (I think it's the second one down, but don't quote me) which allows people to own guns!!

I think the exact words are "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed".

Anyway, the journalist in question- Johnathon Turley- thinks that this amendment was intended by the Framers to work in the exact same way as the one above it, which apparently allows people to exercise their religion freely, and also allows them to speak and assemble freely.

Hmmm. Sounds interesting, but can this be? After all, the media (when they aren't trumpeting their importance to "Truth, Justice, and... all that" (a big "hello" to the 4 people that saw the new Superman movie this year and get the point) has long said that this notional "right to keep and bear arms" doesn't really exist.

So perhaps some liberals are starting to read beyond the First Amendment. Trust me, there's a lot more to the Constitution than just that first part. Who knows, if they read a bit farther perhaps they'll discover a couple other interesting facts. Like the fact that "the wall of separation between church and state" that they so love to lecture people on isn't actually in the Constitution. Or, if they keep reading, they might notice a very distinct oversight: I have it on good authority (i.e my own lying eyes) that the word "abortion" doesn't actually appear anywhere in the Constitution. And even more amazing, there is a line in the Document that implies very strongly (i.e. explicitly states) that any power not mentioned is reserved to the states and the people.

Which would seem to suggest (and any liberals, try to follow along here) that if abortion isn't mentioned, it isn't a matter that the Federal Government has any business discussing. And therefore, the legality of abortion should be decided by each individual state. Thus suggesting that "a woman's constitutional right to choose" is a complete load of hooey.

It's all there, folks. Read it and understand.

And in with the new. Here we have another staggeringly idiotic nominee for "WTF were they thinking?"

Picture this: You're the coach of a major college football team (Texas A&M). What do you do? You create a newsletter, and sell it to select subscribers for $1200 a pop. Ummm. Maybe not. But hey, the money is useful and can be used (allegedly) for a family run charity. Is that better?

Not so much.

Especially if the newsletter in question discusses things like injuries to players, and also gives evaluations of the players.

Your own players.

Uh huh. This one is really a prime example of where the "WTF were they thinking?" award comes from. It's wrong on so many levels. It violates the privacy of the injured players (given the reasonable assumption that the player didn't give him permission to talk about the injury); it includes information that seems to be geared towards gambling (which he apparently got around by extracting a promise from the subscribers that they wouldn't use the information for gambling); he failed to notify the university that he was doing it, and so on.

But in fairness, once he got busted, he stopped doing it. And pulled out the usual "I didn't realize that it was wrong" approach that works so well.

I'm not sure how this will shake out, though I think I can guess. If the School decides that his actions constitute an embarrassment, then he can be fired without any severance pay. Given that his team isn't exactly in the running for a championship, and people were already calling for his head, I suspect that he's toast. Kiss his $2 million annual salary goodbye.

And frankly, I tend to doubt he's gonna have a lot of success in the job market once he gets canned there. Most reputable schools will be scared off by his apparent lack of both brains and integrity. And since his record on the field is merely decent, it might not be enough to make schools overlook his amazing lack of judgment.

So he'll probably wind up someplace as an assistant coach, until somebody gets desperate enough to offer a shot at redemption. Hopefully, it'll be a while before that happens. Cuz I think he needs a lot of time to think about it.

Anyway, we salute you, Dennis Franchione and happily ask you "WTF were you thinking?"

How bright do you have to be to get busted for smoking pot when you're awaiting sentencing for Federal charges? Good idea, Mikey. It's only Michigan that's in a depression. And the governor apparently wants to keep the State in that elite situation for a few more years. Thus, her plan to end the budget deficit problems by raising taxes. And only by raising taxes. Cutting costs from the State budget? Not an option for Jen Jen. Gotta be more taxes, so that the people living there (the ones with jobs, at least) will have even less money to spend on their own foolish whims.

In the words of the infamous Bill Clinton, "We could give you a tax refund. But you might not spend it on the right things".

Ah yes. Know why the Democrats are the party of the poor? Because they keep trying to create more and more of them.

I guess I need to start giving serious thought to where I'm going to move. I don't see New Mexico as a long-term solution, and it looks less and less like returning home is an option either. Perhaps Nevada, or some other place in the great West. Fortunately, I'll have some time to think about it.

I'd bet that particular moron is a libertarian. You know, somebody who is all in favor of freedom, but doesn't believe in letting the real world interfere with his ideals. And when it does, well the real world is wrong and must change.

Anyway, let's recognize Star Simpson (doesn't the name tell you 98% of what you need to know?) for being a complete moron, and then move on. Hopefully, next time she'll get move up in the awards world and get her a Darwin Award.

Here's a video from Channel 7 in Detroit. The Governor has a plan to build a new headquarters for the State Police, even though nobody seems to think it's necessary.

Of course, the developer is a friend and contributor. And he didn't have to bid on the deal either.

Want to know why Michigan is totally hosed, watch this video. It pretty much says it all.

There are some choppy portions, right where the developer denies that his contributions to the Democrats have anything to do with the deal. But he actually claims that legislators do what's best for the State.

Another good reason why I hate democrats.

This really irks me. "Final Push"? The last time I pulled out my copy of the Constitution and synched it with my calendar, it reminded me that the presidential election isn't until November of 2008. According to the calendar, it's now September of 2007.

Let me check the math here.... So we're better than 13 months away from the election. And we're into the "final push"?

I think we need to go back to the old fashioned way. Or do something. My first thought was to just have every primary on one day. But wouldn't that kinda work out to just another election? If you held open primaries, then wouldn't Al Gore claim that he won more votes in the Democratic primary than Bush won in the Republican, and therefore he should be president?

Maybe we just need to do away with primaries altogether. Either nominate the candidates at the party convention, or do away with them altogether: just let people mark down the name of the person they want elected, and toss it into the ballot box. Then count the votes.

But no. Instead, we're gonna be stuck with this stupidity, where the election will be whittled down to two candidates before the Super Bowl.

Call me a grumpy old fuddy-duddy, but I think it's just another piece of evidence that we have a serious problem in this country. We need to get rid of this latest stupidity dumped on us by the politicians, and start over.

Wow. This story is amazing. This girl is a really really strong candidate to win the "WTF were they thinking?" award.

When I first read about this on Ace of Spades, they mentioned the circuit board on her shirt, but that was all (or I just didn't click through to the rest). But when I saw the story on LGF, they had more details.

I don't buy the "art" defense. To go into an airport like this is completely asinine. She had an agenda, though I doubt that nearly winning a Darwin Award was part of it.

Well, I've been meaning to post for ages. Lots of stuff to talk about, but somehow I could just never muster the energy. So to my loyal readers (if there are any) I apologize.

So I'll just run a quick update, and then try to do better in the future.

In the most recent WTF were they thinking? contest, I think the winner would turn out to be obvious to anyone who had been reading: Jamie Foxx, come on down. Your stupidity in defending Michael Vick gets another win for Team Vick.

Whoopie Goldberg probably could have gained a nomination also, for-wait for it- defending Michael Vick. Apparently in her mind, dog-fighting is a bit of Southern Culture, and therefore should be tolerated, if not embraced.

As several people pointed out, things like lynching "Niggras" and burning crosses also were, at some point, part of Southern Culture. So does Whoopi support them as well?

Of course not. That's stupidity. But it's part of the glory that is Multi-culturalism. You can justify anything you want, while in the next breath accusing somebody else of racism for doing the same.

I might have more to say on this topic later, but I'm furious at Billy Belichick of the New England Patriots for his blatant attempts at cheating. In a nutshell, I've been screaming all along about "The Belichick Effect", a term that I think I created. Basically, it says that in a sport where wins and losses affect things like draft picks, which team plays which in the playoffs, who gets home field advantage, and so on; the long term effects of winning even one game a year by cheating can affect the League for years. So I think he should have been slammed a lot harder, though I do understand the Commissioner's view that he did the best he could.

Otherwise, just assume that I'm cheesed off about whatever the Dhimmicrats have done over the last few weeks. And not terribly happy about the Republicans either.

Oh, and I wonder what O.J. is thinking. I smell a nomination coming up for him...

Here, thanks to ProFootballTalk.com, is a link to an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. This writer, Jeff Schultz, actually gets it. Vick is a coward, who still won't stand up and admit that he did what anyone with an IQ that's measurable knows he did.

I was thinking yesterday about another post on this moron. Seeing the Schultz article merely confirmed it. In truth, the post I had in mind was a bit different: while this guy accuses Vick of cowardice- a fair assessment- I was looking at it from the standpoint of his loyalty.

I read a few excerpts from Vick's plea deal. What I saw there was a guy that's trying to save himself at any cost. So he seems to be throwing his friends under the bus. Okay, in a way it isn't surprising- they all made deals before Vick, with the obvious intention of giving him up to save themselves. Fair enough, that's how it works. But now Vick comes along with his deal. Initial reports had him kinda-sorta admitting guilt, but not quite. Turns out that he did actually state the truth, to an extent.

The problem that I see (and bear in mind I have absolutely no training in the legal biz) is that Vick's friends all know the truth. And in his deal, he basically said "I didn't gamble and I admit that dogs died as a result of our collective actions. But my biggest mistake was that I was hanging around with a bad crowd."

In other words, he seems to be claiming that he just needs a higher class of friends. Well, duh. That's also pretty apparent to anyone with half a brain. However, I don't think that the whole dog-fighting thing was put into his head by these other morons. And he seems to be suggesting that it was. Which would really piss me off if I were one of the other guys.

I'm not sure that a claim like that is a Good Idea. As I said, these guys know the truth, and if they get the impression that he just pushed them in front of the bus, then they can still make his life miserable. At this point, they have little to lose- he's lost his Nike contract, has a good chance- especially since he still doesn't admit he's a slimeball- of being banned from the NFL, and it's possible that the Atlanta Falcons will go after him for some of the money they've already paid him. When the whole thing finally ends, there's a chance that he won't have a whole lot of money left over. So the golden goose has apparently died. And if (and I must clarify that this is merely a rant by me) he is guilty of more, and if his friends were to rat him out, then he might well be looking at a lot more time "in the service of the State", than seems to be expected today.

So it seems to me that he'd do better to keep him mouth shut about his loser friends. But then I question whether he's ever learned that lesson.

It all reminds me of a common story in military circles. We've all heard the tales of men hurling themselves on a grenade to save their buddies. It's a pretty solid way to get a medal, though generally posthumously. But in my younger days, when I was in the Army, I was talking to a couple Vietnam veterans. (Again, a quick disclaimer: what I'm saying here is what I was told. It may or may not be true, so take it for what it's worth.) At any rate, the explanation these guys gave me was that the whole "throwing himself on the grenade" myth was just that: a myth. Their explanation was a bit more... sinister. Or perhaps mundane. Supposedly, there were two reasons for someone dying this way. The first was that he was a less than stellar soldier, and when the grenade bounced into the bunker, someone managed to shove Snuffy on top of it. So the unit got rid of a weak soldier, and the dead guy's cohorts all got together and branded him a hero, getting him a medal that his family could cherish.

The second, far more relevant explanation is that the guy who "fell" on the grenade was simply the slowest guy of the bunch. Everyone else bailed out of the hole, and he couldn't keep up. So the slowest guy loses, and the fastest guy gets away with the least amount of injury.

....And another one bites the dust. We now have another nominee for the "WTF were they thinking?" award. And it seems to be a habit- another Michael Vick supporter. This one goes beyond even our old friend Emmitt Smith.

I'd consider making some comments here, but really- why bother. This is just too breath-takingly stupid for words.

Apparently, torturing dogs is A Black Thing. And Mikey should be given a break, since he didn't know it's also A Bad Thing.

So, Jamie Foxx: On behalf of normal people everywhere, I have to ask you: "WTF were you thinking?"

Well here's one that, IMHO, doesn't quite rise to the level of stupidity needed for our beloved award. But it's darn close.

I wonder if this maternal genius has any clue of the irony here. Yes, according to the article, there were some safety issues. But from what I read, the producers did a good job of keeping on top of it.

But here's a clue for Supermom: Put your kid on a tv show, and there's a chance that something bad could happen. Especially a "reality" show. Might I suggest not putting your kid on tv if you don't want them to be "abused"?

Nah, that might make sense.

Whew! What a relief

I was beginning to worry that stupidity was on the wane, since I hadn't found a good nominee for a while. But have no fear!

This week, it's our friends across the sea, in Merrie Olde England. Here's a link to the incomparable Mark Steyn.

It seems there is a clown over there, Tony Turner, aka Barney Baloney. (I'll let you guess which is his real name). And Barney was booked to appear at a Tesco supermarket in Leeds. And then, in the interest of public health, he was told that making balloon animals was strictly off limits.

It's all about the children, you see. You can't have balloons anywhere near children because of the risk that one of the little imps might be allergic to latex.

I'll have a bit more to say on this point later.

Sadly, it seems that poor Barney is having a hard time of it. He can no longer use a bubble machine to make bubbles for the tots. Why? Well a child might slip and fall, and we all know that plays havoc with Clown Insurance. (Remember the big crash of the clown insurance industry? Millions of clowns were put out of work, and the damage to stock markets almost caused a world-wide depression)

Of course, if you do have balloons (this being before the health risks of latex were discovered by the crack scientists at the Grocery Institute), well there are additional issues. Not everything made of balloons is good. Some things are evil.

All together now: "We can't allow clowns to make balloon guns because that encourages children to commit violence".

When balloon guns are outlawed, only clown-outlaws will carry balloon guns. Or something.

But in news that will surely warm the hearts of the Immortals, balloon swords are allowed. In case you ever run into a balloon Kurgan. Of course, kids with balloon swords are forced to fight until they're all dead, except a single child. There can be only one, you know.

So now, after that brief visit to Clown Hell, we come back to the latex allergy point. Steyn has a link in his article on poor Barney to another pundit, Rush Limbaugh, who points out the irony of forbidding an entertainer to expose children to latex. Why? Well here's Rush:

Have you heard anything more ridiculous than this? The children -- the little children -- might be allergic to latex? Meanwhile, in every damn school in the country we're urging them to wear condoms, for crying out loud! Well, what the hell is a condom made of? Give 'em condoms for every damn thing in the world that's wrong with them, and then they can't go to a circus and be around a clown with a bunch of balloons?

Nicely put. Teach kids "condoms, condoms, and more condoms" from the time that they're 5 years old, and then later tell them that latex is dangerous. Makes perfect sense to me.

So to Tesco and their idiotic attempts to protect the children from anything and everything, including fun, I hereby nominate you for this week's "WTF were they thinking?" award.

And if we're lucky, I'll find a way to get hold of Barney, who is no doubt on the verge of being transported to Australia for his crimes, and he can make a cool trophy for the winner. From forbidden balloons of course.
